The Story

Indonesia is the world’s second largest plastic waste contributor to the ocean. According to a Study by University of Georgia, it is estimated that 3.22 million metric tons of plastic waste is dumped annually into the ocean surrounding Indonesia. Of total plastic waste in the ocean, 70% of it comes from F&B Packaging. Right now, there are 150 million tons of plastic in the ocean, and it’s predicted that there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050 if we don't change the way we use single use plastics today. This is a problem because: 1. Plastics pollute a lot of things from land, ocean, marine creature, tap water, bottled water, table salt and even our body. Plastics are harmful for our environment, animal and our health. It proved killing many marine creatures that mistake plastic for food; and nano plastics are able to enter human sell that will affect our health in a bad way when it accumulates. 2. We are so depended on plastic items, and its production is projected to increase four-fold by 2050. Right now, we still don’t have a lot of effective waste management that can process plastic waste into valuable material. Only 18% of plastic, and 14% of plastic packaging are recycled. The rest is being incinerated, dumped in landfill or leak to the ocean. The Solution: Evoware is providing alternative plastic material to reduce our global plastic waste. Evoware’s seaweed-based packaging can replace small plastic sachet that is hard to recycle and prone to leak into the environment, while their edible cup can replace single use plastic cup that usually used for events like birthday party or music festivals. Evoware’ products can also be a food source for human, animal or plants so it is very safe for all. Beside that, Evoware also concern about their partners from suppliers, workers to customers and make sure to maintain the fairness and give positive impact for all. Evoware also collaborate with social institution, Yayasan Prima Unggul to produce Ello Jello edible cup and to inspire the kids to create their own business to solve any social issue. Evoware also actives in inspiring and pushing sustainable lifestyle through educational program, special event, and collaborative campaign. Evoware just launched their newest campaign called Rethink where they will raise one sustainable issue at a time to ask people to re-evaluate their habit or business-as-usual and start to implement sustainable practices. Right now, Rethink focuses on plastic waste issue with goal to get 1,000,000 people to be plastic free by using sustainable alternatives by 2020. They also provide zero waste kit to help people to start their zero waste journey. We will also donate the profit to our friends at Yayasan Prima Unggul for every rethink kit purchased.
